Mrs Harford wanted a tikki for Acorn Antiques the musical for Christmas so I obliged by getting them for cambridge. Had a lovely four days there last week. Sunny cold days perfect for looking at the archimertecture.
Stayed in the gardens House Hotel. Very good 4 star at a cheapish price jacuzzis steam rooms and stuff.
Staff were all eastern european very obliging and friendly. Asked for free upgrade to a riverside room which was also bigger and got it with a smile.
Main hazard here is being run down by girlies on bikes who smile sweetly as they gasp sorry. "No no problem, please feel free to do it again"
Town and Gown still seems to exist. The shopping area around the colleges being larger stores and designer / artisan shops. We needed to buy a camera with Argos vouchers mrs Harford had stuffed down her stockings and were directed to the Grafton Centre. This was what "I believe our American cousins call a Mall M'lud" it was a sniffily respectful distance away from Academe and housed the Chav area Elizabeth Duke, Superdrug, etc.
Went past St Johns College and recalled staying with Jonny Bygraves brother there when he was doing a PHd. What a mad weekend. Some seriously intelligent people there tho. He was hanging around a lot with a cove called Pete De Bolla who went to dinner with at the casserole house. He struck me as an odd character- refusing beer for giant ice cream sundaes and licking the glass out. He was obviously networking like mad and mapping out his future- mr Bygrave marked him out as a high flier. Turns out he still likes his Grub big time He had a Butcher Dad as well. he is also a Wine buffsee fellows.
He is also a smart cookie
Not that I am obsessed or anyfing like.
You can see some nice pictures in the Album entitled Feb 2007
